onny Baker is a full-time employer at the BBC.
In 2023, he took the opportunity of 6 months parental leave. He made this decision as his wife, who works as a freelancer, would not get paid if she took the time herself. He felt she needed this time for her own career, and wanted to be the one to spend time with his daughter and his four-year-old son, who was also adjusting to life with a sibling.
Jonny says "I feel it’s extremely important for equal opportunities when it comes to childcare. For the family to have choice, men need to be able to look after children more easily and women not to be forced to break from a career should they not want to. It’s beneficial for everyone including the employer."
